A collaboration with 404 Zero, launched September 2022. Onchain tokens controlling physical objects in real-time. Ownership becomes tangible. The digital extends into the real world. The installation wasn't created for the community, it was created by the community. 660 lights. 660 tokens.
The Installation
660 individual light units installed in Kaplankaya, Turkey, within a building designed by architect Carlos Ferrater. Each light's behavior is determined by its corresponding NFT's onchain metadata. Token owners control a single physical light from anywhere in the world. Individual decisions merge into a unified visual composition, viewable both in person and through a digital simulation. Wind influences the lights, adding an organic layer to the generative output. See it in action
Onchain Integration
When a token is updated, the light's visuals sync across both physical and digital planes. The artwork exists simultaneously as a physical installation, a digital simulation, and a blockchain record. Each light is defined by Position: Longitude, Latitude, Altitude and Behavior: Frequency, Brightness, Amplitude parameters.
The Ethereum Merge
Lightonchain launched in September 2022, timed with Ethereum's historic transition from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake, known as "The Merge." The project marked a commemorative moment: a physical manifestation of a pivotal blockchain event. Tokens were offered at no cost, prioritizing accessibility and artistic participation over speculation.
